So a few months ago I did a rewatch on my own journal. I've been meaning to repost the relevant entries to this comm as we rewatched them here, and I figured that since this is one of my favorite episodes ever that I might as well start the reposting with this episode.

One of the things that re-watching Father's Day highlighted for me was the different approaches RTD and Moffat tend to have towards dealing with the concept of time and time travel.

In "The Long Game," Adam's betrayal was planned on the spur of the moment, but was calculated and consciously self-serving. I haven't made an individual post yet, although I've been avidly reading and responding, but one thing that keeps lingering around the discussion of Father's Day provoked me to post. This episode offers up some interesting juxtapositions of maturity, responsibility, age, and relationship.

One of the constant themes of the revivial of Doctor Who seems to be choices and consequences. We have a Doctor who's clearly still reeling from the loss of his homeworld, who lives with the consequence of the choices he made during the last Time War every day of a very long life.
